The number of people actively experiencing homelessness in Toronto continues to grow. New homes with supports are urgently needed to ensure everyone has a warm, safe place to call home. Learn more about why supportive housing is so important from the people who live and work there by watching this video (opens in new window).

To respond to this urgent need, in 2021, the City of Toronto has acquired three floors of the former Super 8 Hotel at 222 Spadina Ave. to create homes with support services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The property has been renovated to provide 84 self-contained supportive homes with 24/7 on-site supports for residents’ health and well-being. Homes First Society, an experienced housing and support services provider, is operating the site and supporting tenants.

The new homes:

  • are dedicated to women, Indigenous residents, seniors, people with disabilities and other people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments with a bathroom and a kitchen
  • includes amenities such as shared laundry, a dining area, a communal area, and a programming space
  • provide tenants with access to a variety of support services
