Advising, for information, that Mr. John A. Sherk has been reappointed as the representative of Citizens for a Lakeshore Greenway on the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee, and that Mr. Sherk's alternate is Mr. Andrew Shulz.

3. JOINT MEETINGS OF CYCLING COMMITTEES.
Co-Chairs, Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee and
Toronto City Cycling Committee

Advising that the Toronto City Cycling Committee and the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee will hold joint meetings, under their respective Terms of Reference, and in accordance with the Council Procedural By-law, until a new cycling committee has been established by City Council; and recommending that the North York Cycling and Pedestrian Committee be invited to meet jointly with the Toronto City Cycling Committee and the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee.
4. STAFFING LEVELS AND OTHER RESOURCES
PROVIDED TO CYCLING COMMITTEES.

Submitting the following Recommendations from the Working Group on the Governance Plan for consideration with the forthcoming report to the Urban Environment and Development Committee from the Interim Functional Leads for Transportation and Planning on staffing levels and other resources previously in place to support the various cycling committees and the adequacy of same in the context of the new City:
(1) That the Toronto Cycling Committee's work be supported by core staff dedicated to working on cycling issues;
(2) that the current staff support level for the Toronto Cycling Committee and the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee be maintained for the Toronto Cycling Committee; and
(3) that if there are opportunities to temporarily reassign staff made surplus through the restructuring of the new City, such staff be assigned to priority projects contained within the plans of the existing cycling committees.
5. CYCLING NETWORK PLAN.

Submitting the following Recommendations from the Network Planning Sub-Committee for consideration with the forthcoming report to the Urban Environment and Development Committee from the Interim Functional Lead for Transportation on the development of a complete system of bicycle lanes:
(1) That a comprehensive network system of Bike Lanes, Bike Routes, Bike Paths, and Bike Trails be adopted by Council and incorporated into the new City's Master Plan; and that an implementation plan be developed and adopted for the coordinated development of the network within a five-year period; and
(2) that the Urban Environment and Development Committee request staff to report back on the feasibility of the proposed cycling network plan.
6. 1998 CYCLING AMBASSADOR PROGRAM CITY-WIDE.

Submitting, for information, a copy of a report dated March 6, 1998, addressed to the Urban Environment and Development Committee from the Commissioner, Urban Planning and Development Services, for consideration at its meeting scheduled to be held on April 20, 1998, wherein it recommends that:
(1) the Urban Environment and Development Committee endorse the 1998 Cycling Ambassadors Program as described in this report, and that the outside funding for the program be administered through Urban Planning and Development Services; and
(2) the Commissioner of Urban Planning and Development Services co-ordinate with the Commissioners of Works and Emergency Services and Community and Neighbourhood Services the allocation of funds within their budgets, in order to achieve a minimum City contribution of $40,000.00 towards this program.
7. BIKE WEEK IN THE THE NORTH YORK DISTRICT

9. CONFERENCE ON "MOVING THE ECONOMY".
An oral update respecting "Moving the Economy," an international conference organized by Transportation Options and the City of Toronto with support from 13 organizations, to be held from July 9 to 12, 1998, in Toronto, will be given by Ms. Sue Zielinski, Urban Planning and Development Services, City of Toronto.

10. EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR CYCLISTS AND MOTORISTS.

Recommending that:
(1) the matter of education programs for cyclists and motorists, targeting certain key groups such as trucks and other large vehicles, be referred to the Security, Safety and Education Sub-committee for investigation and report back to the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee; and
(2) the appropriate City staff be invited to attend the next meeting of the Sub-Committee in order to determine the scope, content and implementation of such education programs, including Can-Bike, SPACE, public awareness and informational pamphlets.
