 Forwarding the report of the Technical and Field Work Committee of the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee (MCAC) dated November 18, 1997, respecting the Etobicoke Creek as a potential route in the City of Mississauga=s long-term master plan of pedestrian and cycling routes; and submitting recommendations from the Network/Bike Planning Sub-Committee respecting this proposal.

2.REVISED SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS.

 Submitting, as requested by the Committees on April 21, 1998, the following revised schedule of meetings for the balance of 1998 for the interim joint meetings of the Metropolitan Cycling and Pedestrian Committee, the Toronto City Cycling Committee and the North York Cycling and Pedestrian Committee, to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Metro Hall:

 -Monday, June 22 in Room No. 314;

-Monday, July 27 in Committee Room A;

-Monday, August 24 in Committee Room A;

-Tuesday, September 29 in Committee Room A;

-Tuesday, October 27 in Committee Room A; and

-Tuesday, November 24 in Room No. 314.

 3.DRAFT CONSULTANT=S REPORT - RAIL AND HYDRO CORRIDOR

PATHWAY OPPORTUNITIES STUDY.

 Outlining the principles, issues and other matters to move the Hydro/Rail Corridor Bike Trail Project forward which were discussed at the previous joint meeting of the Committees.

 Submitting, as requested by the Committees on April 21, 1998, suggested activities to promote the Hydro/Rail Corridor Bike Trail Project.

 4.WORK GROUP ON THE OFFICIAL PLAN.

 Advising that the Committees on April 21, 1998, during consideration of a report (April 4, 1998) from Mr. Jack Becker, Co-Chair, Network/Bicycle Planning Sub-Committee, embodying recommendations respecting the development of a City-wide network of bicycle trails on operational and abandoned hydro and railway corridors as part of a more comprehensive network of cycling facilities, referred the following motion to the joint meeting of the Committees scheduled to be held on May 25, 1998:

 AThat a work group be established to:

 (a)monitor the progress and contents of the Official Plan related to cycling issues;

 (b)consider how pedestrian matters can be addressed in the Official Plan; and

 report thereon to the Committees.@

5.ACTION TAKEN BY CITY COUNCIL: AFOOT AND

BICYCLE COURIERS - REVENUE CANADA TAXATION.@

 Advising that City Council on April 16, 1998, during consideration of Clause No. 11 of Report No. 4 of The Urban Environment and Development Committee, headed AFoot and Bicycle Couriers -Revenue Canada Taxation,@ decided not to adopt the Clause.

6.ENHANCED SAFETY FOR CYCLISTS, IN-LINE SKATERS AND PEDESTRIANS ON THE CHERRY STREET BRIDGE.

 Commissioner, Urban Planning and Development Services

(May 11, 1998)

 Submitting, as requested by the Committees on March 25, 1998, a report on the possible hazards that the new surface of the Cherry Street Bridge over the Keating Channel may present to cyclists using the roadway; and recommending that this report be received for information.

  7.FILM PERMITS ISSUED FOR STREETS WITH BICYCLE LANES.

 Submitting, as requested by the Committees on March 25, 1998, a report on the present policy respecting the issuance of film permits for locations where there are bicycle lanes; advising that such policy appears to be adequate; and recommending that this report be received for information.

8.CONFERENCE ON AMOVING THE ECONOMY.@

 Ms. Sue Zielinski, City Planning Division, Urban Planning and Development Services, will give an oral report on the presentation made to the Official Plan Committee respecting the AMoving the Economy,@ Conference.

(iv)Bicycle Commuter Program Sub-Committee: Ms. Joanna Beyersbergen and Ms. Trisha Kaplan, Co-ordinators, Toronto Bike Week:

 Forwarding a communication (May 6, 1998) addressed to >Members of the Committee and Volunteers= requesting volunteer support for Bike Week from May 30 to June 7, 1998; and providing a volunteer registration form and other Bike Week information.

(v)Education Safety and Security Sub-Committee - Mr. Phil Piltch and Ms. Marleen Van Laethem, Co-Chairs:

 Forwarding the Minutes of the meeting of the Education, Safety and Security Sub-Committee held on May 5, 1998; a Media Release on the Advanced Can-Bike II Course; and a copy of a communication (May 4, 1998) addressed to Mayor Lastman from the Commissioner, Urban Planning and Development Services, requesting the Mayor to speak at the launch of the 1998 Bicycle Safety Campaign on June 2, 1998, Nathan Phillips Square at 12:00 noon.
