1. PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATION TRIAL (PAD TRIAL).

Forwarding a communication (January 16, 1998) from Mr. R. Verbeek, M.D., FRCPC, Medical Director, Defibrillation Program, Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, requesting support of an application being submitted by the Centre's Division of Prehospital Care to be chosen as a research site in a Public Access Difibrillation Trial; and recommending that this application be supported .

Advising that Toronto Ambulance strongly endorses the application by the Sunnybrook Health Science Centre to participate in the PAD Trial.

 

2. STATUS OF EXISTING COMMITTEES AND THE TASK FORCE ON COMMUNITY SAFETY.

 

Acting Executive Commissioner of Emergency and Protective Services

Recommending that when terms of reference for the new Task Force on Community Safety have been prepared, they be sent to the East York Safety Council, the Emergency Planing Advisory Committee (Metro), the Etobicoke Crime Scope, the Safe City Committee (Toronto), the Safety Council (Etobicoke), and the Taxis on Patrol Committee (Metro), together with a copy of this report, and that each committee be asked to comment on the ongoing need for their work, if any, on their relationship to the Task Force, and on their ongoing staff support needs.

 

3. ACQUISITION OF REPLACEMENT AMBULANCES.

Recommending that:

 

(1) the Emergency and Protective Services Committee approve the Department's request for the acquisition of 24 ambulances through the Ministry of Health;

 

(2) the cost of the acquisition inclusive of the purchase of the vehicles and any conversion charges not exceed $1.948 million;

 

(3) the Budget Committee be requested to recommend pre-authorization of the amount; and

 

(4) the appropriate City Officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto.

 

4. PROTOCOL FOR CONSULTATION WITH COMMUNITY COUNCILS AND AGENCIES, BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS.

Reporting, as requested by the Committee on January 13, 1998, on a protocol for consultation with Community Councils and the respective agencies, boards and commissions on issues of input and timing with respect to budgets, service standards and reorganization.
