APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS OF COUNCIL

TO COMMITTEES AND SPECIAL

PURPOSE BODIES. (Consider with Item No. 2)

 

1. City Clerk

(February 17, 1998)

 

Recommending that the Striking Committee recommend to Council:

 

(1) the appointment of Members of Council to those Committees and Special Purpose Bodies outlined in Schedule 1, for a term of office expiring May 31, 1999, and until their successors are appointed, unless indicated otherwise, subject to the respective organizations providing appropriate indemnity insurance coverage to the satisfaction of the City Solicitor and the City Treasurer;

 

(2) the appointment of a Member of Council to the Etobicoke General Hospital Board, in accordance with the Hospital=s letter dated February 17, 1998; and

(3) that leave be granted for the introduction of the necessary Bills in Council to give effect thereto.

Advising that, in accordance with its by-laws, the Hospital requires one City Councillor appointed to the Board.

Hockey Hall of Fame

(February 2, 1998)

 

Advising, with respect to City Council=s request to have the right to nominate a fourth member to the Board of Directors, the Corporation will consider such request in due process; and, accordingly, the City of Toronto=s nominations for election at the upcoming March 31, 1998, annual general meeting of the Members will remain at three.

 

Note: City Council on January 2, 6, 8 and 9, 1998, appointed Councillor D. Holyday, as the Mayor=s representative, and Councillors J. Flint and C. Korwin-Kuczynski to the Board of Directors of the Hockey Hall of Fame; and directed, in the event that City Council is permitted to appoint a fourth Member, that Councillor D. Shiner be appointed to the Board accordingly.

 

2. APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS OF COUNCIL

TO THE NOISE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

OF THE GREATER TORONTO

AIRPORTS AUTHORITY (Consider with Item No. 1)

Advising that the Urban Environment and Development Committee on February 9, 1998, recommended to the Striking Committee, and Council, that two Members of City Council be appointed to the Noise Management Committee of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

 

Note: The community members appointed by the City to the GTAA Noise Management Committee consists of one elected representative, one resident and one additional member to be appointed at Council=s discretion.

 

At the present time, the position held by such additional member is vacant, having regard that the incumbent has moved.

 

3. APPOINTMENTS TO TORONTO DISTRICT HEALTH COUNCIL.

(February 12, 1998)

 

Advising that the Community and Neighbourhood Services Committee on February 12, 1998, recommended that:

 

(1) the communication (January 20, 1998) from the Chair of the Volunteer Support Committee, Metropolitan Toronto District Health Council (now the Toronto District Health Council), respecting appointments to the Toronto District Health Council be submitted to City Council without recommendation; and

 

(2) the Striking Committee, the Interim Board of Health, and the Commissioner of Community and Neighbourhood Services be requested to submit directly to Council for its meeting on March 4, 1998, for consideration with the aforementioned communication their respective required number of candidates, in accordance with the Minister of Health=s guidelines, for nomination to the Toronto District Health Council, as outlined therein.

 

Note: City Council at its meeting on January 2, 6, 8 and 9, adopted the recommendation of the Striking Committee to appoint Councillor J. King to the Toronto District Health Council.

 

The Toronto District Health Council subsequently requested in the aforementioned communication dated January 20, 1998, that two candidates be nominated for each position on Council. Accordingly, another nomination is required by the Striking Committee in conjunction with Councillor J. King=s nomination.

 

(When Members of Council were previously canvassed as to their interest in serving on the Toronto District Health Council, Councillors J. King and J. Layton indicated their interest.)

 

4. Mr. Alex Ling, Chairman,

Bloor West Village BIA

(February 6, 1998)

 

Advising that the Bloor West Village Business Improvement Area wishes to have both Councillors David Miller and Chris Korwin-Kuczynski appointed to the Board of Management of the Bloor West Village BIA.

Note: City Council at its meeting on January 2, 6, 8 and 9, 1998, appointed Councillor D. Miller to the Bloor West Village BIA.

 

5. Mr. Andrew Musial, Secretary,

Roncesvalles Village BIA

 

Advising that the Roncesvalles Village Business Improvement Area is requesting the appointment of Councillor David Miller, High Park, to the Board of the BIA.

 

Note: City Council at its meeting on January 2, 6, 8 and 9, 1998, appointed Councillor C. Korwin-Kuczynski to the Roncesvalles Village BIA.

 

6. REQUEST FOR COUNCIL REPRESENTATION

ON COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BOARD.

Submitting Clause No. 113 of Report No. 17 of The Land Use Committee, which was adopted by the Council of the City of York on December 9, 1997, wherein it is recommended that the report dated November 25, 1997, from Marguerite Pyron, President, CAN DO (York - Community Alliance for Neighbourhood Development Opportunities), be referred to the City Clerk of the new City of Toronto, which report contains a request that a Council representative from each Ward in the City of York be appointed to sit on the Board of Directors.
