BY-LAW No. 86-1998
To appoint, on an interim basis, Dr. Colin D Cunha, Dr. Alwyn Egbert,
Dr. Richard Gould, Dr. Bart Harvey, Dr. Ian Johnson, Dr. David McKeown,
Dr. Elizabeth Rea, Dr. Rita Shahin and Dr. Barbara Yaffe,
Associate Medical Officers of Health for the City of Toronto Health Unit.
WHEREAS the City of Toronto Act, 1997 (No. 2) provides that a board of health for the City
of Toronto be established on January 1, 1998, under the name Board of Health for the City of
Toronto Health Unit; and
WHEREAS City Council at its meeting held January 2, 6, 8 and 9, 1998, appointed
Dr. Sheela Basrur as Acting Medical Officer of Health for the City of Toronto Health Unit; and
WHEREAS it is necessary to appoint, on an interim basis, Associate Medical Officers of
Health for the City of Toronto Health Unit for the sole purpose of ensuring the appropriate
exercise of statutory responsibilities under the Health Protection and Promotion Act; and
WHEREAS the function of appointing Associate Medical Officers of Health is delegated to
City Council pursuant to the City of Toronto Act, 1997 (No. 2); and
WHEREAS the Health Protection and Promotion Act provides that no one is eligible for
appointment as an Associate Medical Officer of Health unless the Minister of Health approves the
proposed appointment;
The Council of the City of Toronto HEREBY ENACTS as follows:
1. Dr. Colin D Cunha, Dr. Alwyn Egbert, Dr. Richard Gould, Dr. Bart Harvey,
Dr. Ian Johnson, Dr. David McKeown, Dr. Elizabeth Rea, Dr. Rita Shahin and Dr. Barbara Yaffe are
appointed, on an interim basis, Associate Medical Officers of Health for the City of Toronto
Health Unit.
2. Where this by-law conflicts with any other by-laws setting out the powers and
duties of a municipal official, this by-law prevails to the extent of the conflict.
3. Subject to the approval of the Minister of Health, this by-law shall be deemed to
have taken effect on March 4, 1998.
ENACTED AND PASSED this 6th day of March, A.D. 1998.
