Decision Advice and Other Information |
Dr. Paul Gamble, Chair, welcomed everyone and with the assistance of Nick Ametrano from MonsterMortgage presented scrolls of recognition to the top fund raisers in the 2010 Toronto Challenge from Toronto Long-Term Care Homes and Services.

The Chair advised that awards to the top individuals from other Homes would be presented at the Home.
The Chair, on behalf of the Advisory Committee on Long-Term Care Homes and Services, thanked Nick Ametrano and MonsterMortgage for their amazing support and dedication as the presenting sponsor of the Toronto Challenge and presented Nick with a scroll from Mayor David Miller and City Council.
The Chair also presented awards for top fundraiser and Leader of the Pack:

Summary |
Promoting the theme "CELEBRATE your ability and support SENIORS in your community", the 2010 Toronto Challenge presented by MonsterMortgage.ca brought together 53 agency partners in a celebration of physical activity and community spirit, raising funds to help improve the quality of life for Toronto seniors. Overall fund‑raising pledges have increased 17% over last year. In total $497,250 was raised. |

Summary |
The division is currently planning the 2010 Fall Family Education session for October 12, 2010.
This upcoming educational opportunity will continue to build on the very successful spring 2010 session, and will emphasize caregiver stress from the family members' perspective and experiences with having a relative residing in long‑term care. In addition, it is anticipated that this session will offer family members the opportunity to develop or enhance their repertoire of successful coping strategies with caregiver stress.
This report requests the approval of an expenditure of $50.00 from the Education Donations Account as an honorarium for the guest speaker who will facilitate this session. |

Summary |
The Long-Term Care Homes and Services Division regularly surveys residents, clients and families about their satisfaction with care and service, through a standardized survey (assessment) tool called "You Opinion Counts".
Trended results of "Your Opinion Counts" surveys are reviewed by the General Manager and reported out to members of the division’s Long‑Term Care Homes and Services Management Committee and the division’s Quality Council, for use in continuous quality improvement work. Past results have guided quality improvement projects (e.g. personal laundry) as well as quality monitoring activities.
The trended results from 1st and 2nd quarters of 2010 are summarized here for the information of members of the Advisory Committee on Long‑Term Care Homes and Services, and to facilitate any advice that they may wish to add to guide the improvement work of staff within the division. |

Caring Clown Pilot Program Assessment |

Summary |
The Caring Clown Program, offered by The Chang School of Continuing Education, Programs for the 50+, brought students to perform, within a supervised practicum, for residents from varied profiles at the pilot sites – Carefree Lodge, Castleview Wychwood Towers, Cummer Lodge and Fudger House between January and March 2010.
The Coordinators of Volunteer Services worked with Programs and Services to ensure as many residents as possible were able to enjoy the performances and practicum visits of the caring clown students and assisted with this pilot program assessment. |

Summary |
Planning work had already begun for a fundraising evening to be held at Stage West in September 2010 when Wesburn Manor received word from the venue that the production of "All Shook Up" was cancelled.
The planning committee then considered future offerings for suitability and appropriateness finding a match with a new musical based on the TV series, "Happy Days". Performances begin in February; deposit from the cancelled production can be transferred to the new fundraising dinner and show in support of Wesburn Manor to be held on April 20, 2011. |

Summary |
Toronto Intergenerational Partnerships (TIGP) is a not-for-profit charitable organization whose mission is to contribute to a society that values, supports and welcomes the contributions of all individuals throughout the life course, engaging people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences in intergenerational activities. TIGP is focused on enriching the lives of all participants. TIGP believes that meaningful relationships are formed when partnerships are developed.
TIGP first came into existence in 1981 to serve the needs of youth and older persons who may be isolated, who may have a need for enhanced social contact and/or who may benefit from the sharing of skills, talents, ideas and wisdom between generations.
TIGP has an annual Awards Program, established to recognize individual and collective efforts that promote intergenerational harmony and life-long learning through volunteer spirit and community partnerships within Toronto. True Davidson Acres (TDA) has been selected to receive the 2010 Award of Recognition for "Bringing Generations Together". True Davidson Acres also received the 2009 Community Partnership Award.

The Residents’ Interest Reserve Fund is used for the general benefit of residents in the ten Toronto long-term care homes to enhance their quality of life through social and recreational activities. For the second quarter 2010, $8,542.71 has been spent from the 2010 budget of $30,627.00. Interest earned in the quarter was $2,263.69. The fund balance as at June 30, 2010 is $1,837,368.97. |
