First Meeting of 2014-2018 Council Scheduled for December 2 and 3For the 2010-2014 term of Council, the last regular meeting of City Council was held on August 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2014. There are no more scheduled meetings of City Council or committees reporting to Council until after the October 27 Municipal Election when the new 2014-2018 term of Council begins in December. However, meetings of some special committees that do not report to Council and agencies, boards and committees continue throughout the fall. Traditionally Toronto City Council does not meet after Nomination Day, the last day that candidates can register for the election. This year, nomination day is Friday, September 12. City Council does not meet after this date in recognition that the election campaign is in full swing. The first meeting of the new City Council for 2014-2018 is scheduled for December 2 and 3. In the event of an emergency before December 2, a special meeting of City Council can be called on 24 hours notice. If a special meeting was to be called up to and including November 30, it would be the outgoing 2010-2014 Council Members who were called to the meeting. The newly elected Mayor and Councillors for the 2014-2018 term of Council do not take office until December 1, 2014. |
